Sundays are known for being a day of rest to unwind and recharge for the week ahead, but as moms with hectic schedules we know that spending all day lounging around only leads to a stressful, disorganized start to your week.
In this post I will share some simple Sunday routines to help you start your week off right!
Get Your Laundry Done
Yes, I’m more than aware that laundry is a never ending cycle. However, knowing you are caught up with laundry for the week not only lightens your to-do list throughout the week, but it also allows you to plan your outfits (and your children’s outfits) for the week ahead.
Once your laundry is done, planning and organizing what you (or your children) will wear for the week is your next step. For kids, I highly suggest using a hanging organizer (linked below) to sort and store daily outfits. Having this system in place will save you time and your sanity during early morning routines. Trust me when I say that not having to hear my 8 year old tell me, “I can’t find my shorts/shoes/socks” as we're trying to walk out the door in the morning is worth the few extra minutes on Sunday afternoons.
Check Your Schedule
Don’t let that dentist appointment you scheduled 6 months ago or little Johnny's birthday party sneak up on you. Reviewing your calendar on Sunday will hopefully allow you to prepare for those events that are not part of your typical weekly routines.
Meal Prep
This is going to look different for every family, but having a plan for what you will eat throughout the week will not only save you time, but also money. In our house meal planning consists of planning out what meals we will have for dinners during the week around practice and game schedules and making sure the fridge and pantry are stocked with the necessary groceries.
My kids take their lunches to school during the school year, so in addition to planning dinners we also prep lunch items ahead of time to make packing lunches easier in the morning. For us this means washing and cutting up fruits and veggies and packing them into individual containers. My kids (8 and 9) are also responsible for preparing individual portions of chips/pretzels/popcorn for their lunches ahead of time. - Reusable ziplock bags and containers linked below.
Tidy Up
I’m not suggesting Sunday as a time to deep clean your entire house, but something as simple as picking up clutter and running the vacuum over your floors will give you a nice little mental boost for the week. The last thing I want to return to on Monday evening is a messy house. Take a few minutes to tidy up the common areas of your home.
Relax and Spend Quality Time
Most importantly, make sure you carve out some time to do something enjoyable with your family. This doesn’t have to be expensive or over the top. Pizza or ice cream and a movie or a bike ride around the neighborhood are some great inexpensive ways to enjoy time together.
Do you have a Sunday routine that you think we should know about? I would love to hear about your routines and suggestions. Share in the comments below!
This feral momma has some very good ideas. One tip I might suggest is to have the kids, 8 and 9 year old, help a little bit with these chores. Show them how to fold their own clothes and then put them up and organize their clothes for the week themselves. Maybe have them do a few more and then the reward would be to go get ice cream after dinner.
