How to Make Easy Crock Pot Meatball Subs: A Simple Recipe for Busy Moms

Introduction

This simple recipe is not only kid and husband approved, but it is one of our go to weeknight meals because it's so quick to throw together. It's also a crowd pleaser at any get together! - Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Ingredients and Shopping List

  • 1 package of frozen meatballs — Any kind (beef, pork, turkey) work just fine

  • 2 jars of marinara sauce — We love Aldi's Priano Four Cheese Sauce, but you can use your favorite jar of spaghetti sauce. You could get by with one large jar if you needed to, but I'm a sucker for the extra sauce.

  • Seasonings — garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and parsley

  • Hoagie rolls

  • Cheese — our favorites are mozzarella cheese or provolone. We use parmesan cheese as a topper.

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

  1. Start by pouring one jar of sauce into the crockpot. Add the package of meatballs (frozen is fine, no need to thaw first). Then pour the 2nd jar of sauce over the meatballs.

  2. Next, add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and parsley to taste. We left these out before by accident and the world didn't end, so if you prefer to leave the seasoning out (or some of them) you will still enjoy the taste.

Set It and Forget It

3. Once you have the meatballs, sauce, and seasoning in the crockpot turn the temperature on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours.

The great thing about this meal is that it's nearly impossible to burn your meatballs. Plus if they are heated and ready before you are ready to eat you can always turn the setting to keep warm and they'll be there for you when you are ready.

Serving and Enjoying

4. Prior to serving, cut the hoagie rolls lengthwise and place a slice of provolone cheese on the roll.

5. Place 4-5 meatballs on top of the cheese and cover with mozzarella cheese before topping with the top of the roll. Allow a couple of minutes for the cheese to melt before enjoying.

Make It Your Own

  • You can add parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes for a little extra flavor and spice if you'd like.

  • I also love to put the rolls in the oven for a few minutes to toast them before adding the cheese and meatballs. This helps keep the bread from falling apart while eating.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoy this super simple, very yummy, crock pot meal. Add it to your weekly meal rotation and let me know what you think in the comments!
